After several minutes of searching, it was discovered that the back door had been left open, allowing the little dog to escape.

Backdoors are commonly installed at the rear of most building structures, serving as alternative entry or exit points. While front doors are usually more prominent and more commonly used in most buildings, adequate attention should be paid to the security of the back doors to guard against unauthorized or unnoticed entry or exit.

Is the Back Door of Your Church Shut?

In your church, are you used to seeing new faces one month who are no longer around within a short period? Or do you keep seeing new faces all the time and yet your church membership is somewhat stagnant? If so, you very likely need to ‘Shut the Back Door’.

Off course, we aren’t referring to physical back doors that may exist in some church buildings but rather putting adequate structures in place to facilitate the greater retention of souls coming into your church.

100% retention of first-timers or newcomers to your church is possible, but you must be prepared to do the needful.

Reasons to Keep Your Back Door Shut

1. We are ordained to have productivity and progress. John 15:16 says, "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you." A church with halted growth is clearly not an expression of God's will and desire. There are churches that do not grow significantly because the members are not evangelical, but there are also those that are not growing because new members coming in are not being properly retained.

2. The Lord holds you accountable. As a Minister of God, your work is to feed and nurture God's flock, and like a true shepherd, He holds you accountable for their state and requires that you do the work as one that will give account. Acts 20:28 declares, Take heed therefore unto yourselves and to all the flock, over which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

How to Keep the Back Door Shut.

The first step is to have the right attitude to growth and have zero tolerance for loss, always striving to have maximum retention just like our Lord did. He said in John 17:12, "While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled."

The next step is to avail yourself of a most insightful teaching by the Man of God, Rev. Dr. Chris Oyakhilome DSc DD, titled Perfecting Soulwinning, which will take you through 7 vital steps in winning and building souls that come to your church, establishing them as true disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ.
