Bound Together

With impressively large wingspans, they can climb up to 10,000 feet into the air, gliding effortlessly for long distances without having to flap their wings.  This is crucial in enabling them to conserve energy for other activities. They exhibit strength and courage in dangerous and turbulent weather by soaring above the storm clouds to safety. Also remarkable is their amazing agility as evidenced by their ability to perform acrobatic maneuvers in flight. They are known to be fiercely protective of their young; carrying them to safety from looming predators.

It’s no surprise therefore that even in the scriptures ‘Eagle Wings’ are used in Exodus 19:4, to attribute the Eagle’s notable characteristics of courage and strength, to the Lord’s deliverance of the Children of Israel from Egypt.  “Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.”

We also see in Isaiah 40:31 that the mounting up of eagles is a blessing of those who wait upon the Lord.

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” 

To wait upon the Lord has a meaning that runs far deeper than hoping in Him or seeking to do His bidding. It means to be bound together with the Lord. It is akin to what the scripture shows us in Genesis 1:9 at the creation; how that the Lord commanded the waters to be gathered or bound together in one place for dry land to appear. For us in Christ today, it represents the state of continuous alignment of our minds, thoughts, interests, and priorities with the Lord’s plans and purposes. This can be achieved through prayer, fellowship with the Holy Spirit, and constant meditation on the Word.
