King Solomon in the Bible was one of the wisest men that ever lived. In the book of Ecclesiastes he declared, “ I returned and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill, but time and chance happeneth to them all” – Ecclesiastes 9:11

Two important factors in man’s life are time and chance. They happen to all categories of people mentioned in the above scripture. Thus, the battle can be won by either the strong or the weak, the race can be won by either the swift or the slow, and wisdom and skill don’t necessarily determine prosperity, but rather time and opportunity.

Time is the currency of the earth, meaning it’s what you are given to spend while you’re in this world. It is valuable and can be appreciated but can also be misused. No wonder the scriptures admonish us thus; “Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity] because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:16 AMPC). The exact opportunity that presents itself today may never be there tomorrow.

As ministers of the gospel with a mandate to take this gospel to the ends of the earth, we must always remember that we are timed. We only have “until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled” (Luke 21:24) to take the gospel to the ends of the earth. The Church age will last only 2000 years before it wraps up. The time to win souls is now. Therefore, no matter where your mission field is and how many people there are in your catchment, work fast, making the most of every opportunity to preach this gospel. The Lord Jesus said in John 9:4 (NKJV), “I must work the works of Him that sent me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.” There is always an appointed time.

Think like this: ‘I have all the time and grace I require to finish the work and I will not waste any opportunity before me to fulfill the mandate that I have from the Lord.’

Remember the Lord is trusting you; therefore, remain focused on the duty; investing your time in the study of the word and prayer. This decision will surely yield for you.
